DaVID & eRICA

November 9, 2019 | Brooklyn, NY

Our Story

David and Erica first met in August 2011 on a Birthright trip to Israel — or, most precisely, at Flughafen Zurich en route. They became part of the larger circle of friends who’d spend much of the next 10 days together, climbing Masada, eating za’atar, drinking Goldstar — the typical Birthright experience. David quickly liked Erica. Erica … liked somebody else. So it goes.

But when they returned stateside — Erica to Philly, David to New York — they wound up texting each other literally every morning and every night, and later videochatting, too. In September, when Erica came to New York ostensibly to visit a friend, they shared their first baseball game. (A pitchers’ duel between Cole Hamels and R.A. Dickey, for those who care about these things.) In October, Erica came up again, giving David a chance to flash his winning smile while failing to open a bottle of wine. (Erica came to the rescue, as usual.)

By the end of the month, things were looking promising for the not-yet couple.

Their first official date was 11/11/11.

They’d continue medium-long distance for a year, alternating weekends between New York and Philly, giving David a chance to actually explore the city where he went to school for four years. (Blame the “Penn bubble.”) Erica moved to New York in late 2012. David, uh, took his time getting around to proposing. But now — after seven years, nine trips to New Orleans, 257 Broadway/Off-Broadway shows, and countless plates of pasta — here they are.

ABOUT THE GREEN BUILDING

The Green Building is a historic brass foundry constructed in 1889 (or 1931?) in the Gowanus neighborhood, once the heart of industrial Brooklyn — and now rapidly gentrifying. The factory closed in the 1980s and remained vacant until it was restored and converted into an event space in 2010.

David and Erica walked by the building many times — en route to eating ice cream, playing shuffleboard or getting a drink nearby — always wondering what was inside the beautiful green building with an old car in front. Now they know.

452 Union Street
Brooklyn, NY 11231

Transportation will be provided for guests staying at the Marriott.

Otherwise, public transit is (always) best. Take the F or G trains to Carroll Street, or the R train to Union Street. Each stop is about 5 minutes from the venue. Directions from the MTA.

Lyft, Uber, Via are easily available. If you do drive, there is no on-site parking or valet; street parking may be available, or there’s a QuickPark garage four blocks away (365 Bond ).

Bagel BrEAKFAST

Drop by on Sunday morning for Black Seed bagels, smoked fish, and other appetizing delights. It’s very casual — come and go any time between 10 & noon.

Other accommodations

It’s New York City, so there are no shortage of options for lodging at every price range. There are a handful of other hotels in Downtown Brooklyn near the Marriott and 1 Hotel, plenty of Airbnb’s nearby and near the venue, and, really, anywhere off the F or R trains could work. If you have questions, just reach out.
